Public Housing Application

Before starting an application, please review the Preference Definitions and Family Public Housing Community Descriptions.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have previously applied for any of the Housing Authority’s programs, you MAY not be able to apply online.

If you enter your name and social security number and a previously submitted application appears on the screen, please do the following:

  • If all information on the screen is correct, or the ONLY information that needs to be modified is your contact information, you can modify your contact information if necessary, select the public housing communities for which you wish to apply, and submit your application.  No further action is necessary.
  • If ANY other information needs to be modified, YOU MAY NOT APPLY ON-LINE. Instead, please print out and complete a REACTIVATE PUBLIC HOUSING APPLICATION FORM and return it to the Housing Authority by mail, or in person at the Housing Authority office.

IMPORTANT: You MUST add all household members to your application to be placed on the correct bedroom size. You MUST enter a Social Security number and birthdate to add a household member.

THINGS TO KNOW AFTER YOU APPLY:
Your bedroom size will be finalized by a caseworker based on your family composition. We reserve the right to revise the bedroom size you select based on our occupancy standards.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION PROMPTLY IF THERE ARE ANY CHANGES! ALWAYS KEEP YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION CURRENT.

IF WE ATTEMPT TO CONTACT YOU AND YOU DO NOT RESPOND YOUR NAME WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE WAITING LIST. Changes in your contact information may be completed online at any time; however, changes to other information will require submission of a Public Housing Waiting List Change Form.

Q. When can I apply for Public Housing?
A. You can apply at any time by completing our Online Application. If you cannot apply online or need assistance in completing your application, you may apply in person on Tuesdays only from 9:00am to 2:45pm at our Main Office at 209 Madison Street, Frederick MD 21701. For directions click here. Applications are done on a first come first serve basis so please expect wait times of up to one hour to apply.
Q. Where am I on the waiting list?
A. Our system DOES NOT have a number system. We can only tell you if you are still on the list or not. Please feel free to call the main office at 301-662-8173 to check your status on the waiting list.
